Expert: Digital economy contribution to GDP jumps to 5.1% in 2018

MOSCOW, Nov 21 (PRIME) -- Digital economy’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) increased to 5.1% in 2018 from 2.1% in the previous year, the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) said on Wednesday in a research.

“If we compare digital economy with the other sectors of traditional economy, it should be noted that contribution of agriculture to the GDP today amounts to 4.4%,” RAEC Director Sergei Plugotarenko said at the Russian Internet Week forum.

The e-commerce volume currently amounts to 2 trillion rubles, and marketing and advertising to 250 billion rubles. Infrastructure and connection amount to 1.8 trillion rubles, and the digital content market is worth 75 billion rubles.

The big data market stands at 3 billion rubles, according to RAEC.

The mobile economy continues to make a significant contribution to the evolution of the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet, with the number of jobs rising 24% on the year to 217,000.
